MFD Hiring Process

The Milan Fire Department is taking applications for the position of firefighter. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a clear driving record, be able to pass a criminal background check and must be able to pass a physical exam. Applications can be picked up and returned to Milan City Hall; 1061 S Main St. deadline for applications is March 31st 2014.

The hiring process will consist of three steps:
  1. written exam
  2. physical agility test
  3. interview
The written test is comprised of general knowledge questions, math questions and listening comprehension.
The physical agility test will consist of multiple stations made up of climbing and raising a ladder, dummy drag, crawling, lifting misc. equipment, hose drag and keiser sled. This is a timed event and each station must be accomplished to continue.
To be a candidate for interview both the written and physical agility test must be completed successfully. Multiple interviews may take place before selecting a candidate to hire.
Once a candidate is hired they will immediately attend the ten (10) week firefighter school at the State Fire Academy. Within the first year the newly hired candidate shall obtain a State of Tennessee EMT Advance certification/licensure.Share
